Sick and Tired

I am sick, not because Carolina blew it...or because I ate too much turkey. Sophia, my sister, Melissa, and I all got a horrible stomach bug on Saturday and we are still recovering. One sick in one room, me in the other, poor Sophia stuck in the living room with Nana and Pa.Ella driving us all nuts. Rewind...We had decided we were going to come home to see Tripp before he left for Hawaii on Saturday. Melissa had started getting sick about noon. So, we packed everyone up and head out. We were barely on 75/85S and Sophia threw up twice all over the car seat, car floor board, her clothes....everywhere. She was strapped in, but she was reaching for me. Ella instantly started screaming b/c she was mad that Sophia threw up and she wanted to go see Daddy. (She asked if she could sit in the car and wait for me to wipe off Sophia) We had to turn around in the middle of Atlanta (I missed the right turn twice). My car is righteous. So, Sophia was sick maybe 8-10 times and now has the runs from the other direction. Melissa was much sicker than me. Heather, Ella, and Daddy were unphased by the bug...at least so far. I have heard it is going around and it is rapidly spreading.

As far as the sleep part, no one in the house, except maybe Ella, got much sleep. I had a crick in my neck from sitting by the toilet and my sister's cats are always waiting to pounce on the bed. Everytime I started to fall asleep, either Sophia woke up or someone opened a creaky door or a cat jumped on the bed. My poor Mom had to drive us home today and luckily no further incidents. Taking apart and attempting to clean the car seat was fun as well... Sophia was mostly angry b/c we wouldn't give her "MALK" last night and this AM. We stopped at McDonalds around 2 pm and she proceeded to shove down 4 "Nuggies" and suck down a cup of water. She was miserable again when we got home, so I bathed her and put her down around 7 pm. Hopefully,we all feel back to normal tomorrow.

I swear everytime a bug goes through our family my husband is out of town....lucky man..

My Little Cutie

We spent the weekend at my parents house this weekend due to the chaos with the kitchen (leak, mold, destruction, waiting on rebuild). I just can't get over how precious Sophia is lately. She is growing up so fast and now she will copy almost all the words you ask her to repeat. She even said alligator this weekend. However, she won't say "yes" and she refuses to put "more please" or "no, Ma'm" combinations together. She will, however, said "ot dog" for hot dog. So, its a matter of will. She says no to everything and we have just had to figure out the difference b/w yes/no and no/no. She loves shoes like her Aunt Heather and always wants a "bow". She will say anyone's name, including Uncle Mart and GGPa, but refuses to say "Sophia". For some reason, Ella decided that she was going to call her Sophie this weekend. I don't hate it, but we really didn't intend to ever call her that. Whenever you ask her to say it, she says "Fee" and smiles. Maybe it's just phonetically difficult for a 17 and 1/2 mth old... Even though her speech isn't where Ella's was at this age, she has almost conquered one obstacle that Ella struggled with..COLORS. She picks out yellow, purple, green and blue blocks on request. Go, Sophia!!!

We're Still Gamecocks

Despite the ridiculous loss to the Gators on Saturday, we will always be Gamecocks. The girls were all dolled up in their Gamecock cheerleader clothing this weekend at Grandma/Nana and Pa's house. They spent some time outside with Grandma/Nana, and by the looks of some of the pics-it was more work than fun for her. To clarify- Sophia can't say Grandma...so she calls her Nana. Ella calls her Grandma. Confusing, I know.

The World According to Ella #11

My three year old is officially 13 today. I went to wake her up this morning about 7:30 to get ready for preschool. She looked at me and turned her head away from me in the bed.(She normally gets up very easily b/c she likes school.) So, I waited a second and heard light snores again. So I gently rubbed her back and said, "Ella, don't you wanna get up to get ready for school today?".She jerked her bed head towards me and said "Yes...I just want 10 more minutes..PLEASE!!", then snapped her head around and laid it on the pillow. I was so in shock, I just got up and walked away....

The World According to Ella #10

(The very same dinner)
We had to sit out on the porch b/c it was so crowded at Hudson's. We made it throught most of the dinner (add two trips to the bathroom) without much excitement. All of a sudden Ella sighs a little and says "Momma-we're almost home!" I laughed and asked her why she thought that. She pointed down the street and said-"see the same long white house that lives down the street from us!" She was referring to a lovely trailer. (We have to pass a "manufactured home" place about 1/4 mi down the road anytime we go towards downtown.)

The World According to Ella #9

Tonight, the girls and I went to Target to get some new shoes. Of course, they never have the shoes they advertise by the time I get there.. It was a quick trip other than the pain of dragging Ella out of each toy section as she declares " I want that for Christmas". I decided I needed to feed them fast, so we stopped at Hudson's Smokehouse on 378. As we pulled in, I parked right in front, near the big "Hudson's" sign. As soon as I parked, Ella said- "Momma, what does that sign say?" I told her it said Hudson's Smokehouse. Her face lit up and she said "Oh, Momma AND its a party house." Or at least thats what I heard. I said-yes, I guess it is a party house. She got that teenager look and said, "No, momma! A POTTY house." I couldn't figure out what she was talking about and we hadn't been there in 9 or 10 mths. I asked her why she thought it was a potty house, and she said" Look momma- there is a sign right in front of your car and under the big sign- the blue one." Just under the sign was a handicap sign. She thought the stick figure was sitting on a potty, not a wheelchair. I almost peed myself.

Fall Fun

Sophia, Ella, Michael and Supernanny played in the leaves after they came raining down on the yard last week. Ella, being the super Big Sis that she is, was trying to give Sophia lessons on riding her tricycle.

I love the look on Sophia's face in the one with her in the wagon. Anyone have a cute name for the pic?

The World According to Ella #7

(We are having a funny night)

After we all got home, Ella was begging for her new favorite food "cheese and crackers". She had a decent dinner and a Jr Frosty, so I told her not tonight. (Part is laziness b/c I don't want to climb back into the Danger Zone for crackers, which will get crumbs all over the house requiring vaccuuming). She didn't really fight it. Later, I was reading a new library book to her so she and Sophia would go down b/f 9 pm. Sophia wouldn't sit still, so Ella and I read together while she was pointing at pictures of chickens in another book. It was one of those sweet moments. Then she and Sophia spend 2 or 3 minutes hugging, kissing and wrestling on the bed until it gets too rough and someone cries. After I put Sophia down, I was tucking in Ella. She was being really sweet and hugging me. I told her "You know Ella, there isn't anything in the world that I wouldn't do for you girls. I love you." She leaned back and said "what, momma?" I repeated myself and she smiled and said, "Does that mean you'll get me some cheese and crackers?" I laughed. Smart girl. She knew the answer and just laughed. She did get her Daddy's sense of humor even if she is MY mini-me!

The World According to Ella #7

Tonight the girls and I had to make a milk/OJ/bread run..in the rain. This afternoon, our kitchen cabinets/sink were torn out and there are three VERY loud dryers blasting 24/7.So, I decided we would go to Wendy's before the store. After an uneventful dinner at Wendy's, we headed to the store. Ella had fussed that it was her turn to hold the fairy wand that was left in the car after Halloween (which suited me, b/c Sophia uses it as a weapon). Halfway to the store, I heard banging on the window. Now Sophia had the wand. So, I asked Ella if she shared it with Sophia and she said "yes, momma. We share, remember?". I was so pleased I told her that she really was a great Big Sister now. She said thanks, paused, then said, "I liked Sophia ever since the baby store." I had to smile. I asked where the baby store was. She said," you know- far far away...in that good place." I asked her if we bought Sophia there and she said no. "She was in your belly and she tried to pop out one day. I saw her hand waving, so we got her out."I had to choke down the laughs at that point. I asked if God put her in my belly. She smiled and shook her head. "NO! First we went to the baby store and picked her, then she got in your belly and grew big. Then she popped out!" For some reason, Sophia was laughing and smiling and shaking her head during the whole story-almost like she understood us.

Speaking of which, this nice couple gave us free Jr Frosty coupons in Wendy's tonight. As the older lady bent over to pet Sophia's head, Sophia made a huge, stinky Bubble and laughed in the lady's face. She tried to pretend she didn't hear it and just walked away. (She was a proper lady...unlike me I guess). So classic.

Park It

Sophia and I ventured to Riverfront Park in Cayce after Starbucks. She was amazed by all the trees and water and birds. She is starting to point things out more and her words make a lot more sense. She makes the sweetest surprised face when she sees something new or exciting. Unfortunately, she is learning to avoid the camera. She thinks its a fun game and laughs and turns back to face me when she sees the camera go away! Turkey...

New Traditions

For a long time now, when my parents come into town, my Dad goes to Starbucks on Sundays and gets a Frappacino (?sp) for everyone who has been good over the weekend. (Sometimes that means no one deserves one!) Ella loves it. She gets a sugar-free, decaf, hazelnut frap-no whip. Well, she and Daddy have started going to Starbucks on Sundays before church. He loves showing her off. Well, today we ALL ventured to Starbucks for drinks and lemon poundcake. We learned sad new today, Pa. They will no longer be making decaf frappacinos. No frap for Ella. She has enough energy. They found some other frozen vanilla drink for her to become addicted to.

Brr...trick or treat...smell my feet..

Friday night we went to the Jennings' house for the second year in a row. We enjoyed some pre-event Subway for dinner. Their children dressed up as a pink lady and a "cool guy" (he looked like James Dean-so precious). Ella and Sophia wore their costumes for the THIRD time. Wed we went to Boo at the Zoo, then Thurs we went to my old high school and trick-or-treated. Some of the high school kids dressed up the classroom doors and wore costumes. It was a little too spooky for Ella. I couldn't get any pics b/c it was too dark. Sophia didn't know what to do, so I had to hold her the whole time (she is heavy). Kids were everywhere and it was dark. They were very generous with the candy. I was disappointed with some of our friends' neighbors. Some people had their houses decorated and even had their pumpkins lit on the porch, but wouldn't answer the door to give out candy! I remember growing up, there were very few houses that didn't have their lights on. We would be out pretty late with our dad and the people in our neighborhood were up in age for the most part. Is the recession that bad? On the other hand, there was another family who had a huge fire in their house not too long ago and it looks like major construction is happening. As we walked by we noticed the sweet owner was still handing out candy and glow-in-the-dark bracelets even though they couldn't live in the house. Now, that's the spirit!

Pony Rides

We pulled the pony out of the attic the other day. At first, Sophia was terrified. Now, she is constantly pulling it out and getting on and off of it. Supernanny filmed this the other day. It looks like she has decided showing off for the camera is fun.
