The World According to Ella #6

Big Daddy and SuperNanny have always let Ella chew a piece of gum occasionally. NOT her mother. Tripp and I argued about it for a long time, but I finally won after she lost her gum in the couch one day. Well, tonight, after she went to "trick or treat" at one of the stations, she looked at what the girl dropped in her bag, then turned around with this horrible look on her face. I asked her what was wrong and she started to tear up. "Momma, that nice lady gave me GUM!" It was crowded and we were trying to chase Sophia around too, so I told her it was okay, not to worry about it. She only took a few steps and started to get upset again. "But, Momma, I told her I wasn't allowed to have gum but she gave it to me anyway!" Bless her heart, she looked so pitiful I told her she could have just one piece because it was Halloween, but that she had to eat it outside. Later, when I was pumping gas I saw her showing Sophia her pieces of candy. I saw her show Sophia the gum and overheard her say "now this is a special piece of gum that I am gonna eat outside because Mommy loves me on Halloween". How can I deny my sweet honest baby girl one tiny piece of gum after that?

Boo at the Zoo

Tonight, we ventured to Boo at the Zoo. You would never know it has been going on for about two weeks, b/c I swear everyone in Columbia was there. Ella got so many compliments on her Asian Princess costume and Sophia looked better than all the other fairies. I intentionally bought the blue outfit because of her blond hair and blue eyes. She ran as fast as she could through the zoo. She only stopped when she saw something exciting. Ella was busy looking for the next "candy house". A werewolf came along and she froze and starting whimpering. She really was scared. She told everybody that came in, as we were leaving, "Be careful- there's a werewolf in there!".

Puddin' Anyone?

My Little Patient

Tripp paged me 911 the other day during my lunch conference and before an afternoon of clinic. My heart was pounding. I thought, at least Tara isn't the one paging me. Well, when I called him he was all panicky and said that Sophia had cut her hand and Tara wasn't sure if it needed stitches because it wouldn't stop bleeding. Apparently, they were on an adventure at Tara's house and they were having a tea party with her roommates' daughter's porcelain tea set. Sophia was walking around with it in the kitchen and fell. It broke in her hand and she bled all over the kitchen floor, counter, sink, on her top, bottom, and shoes. She kept pulling off bandaids and it kept bleeding. She had it in her hair and on her face. When they got to my office, poor Sophia looked like she had been a stand-in in a horror movie. All the nurses were shocked. She smiled at me, then the smell hit me. She had pooped a nasty, sticky, wet poop that had soaked through her pants. So, we took her in our treatment room and stripped her down. She was hollaring louder than the kids next door getting allergy shots. Bad news was, we had no clothes for the queen. I ran warm water in the sink and she washed her little bloody hands again and again. When I finally got a look, it looked like a very deep paper cut. Thank goodness, because she was have been a bear to stitch. Just kept bleeding because she kept pulling off the band-aids and I bet it hurt like stink. Well, it also happened to be the coldest day of the year so far. We had no other choice but to wrap her in a adult patient gown and run her to the car. She survived.

Watch Out Hannah Montana!

Just a few cute pics of Sophia all dressed up with Ella's Hannah Montana hat. You should see her new dance moves. She shakes her head like Stevie Wonder.

The World According to Ella #5

Lately, Ella is into a mild form of manipulation. She is better at "fits" now than she was at 2. We recently ventured to Chick-fil-A for "kid's night". The activity was very simple. Find the hidden bags of halloween candy all over the store. Well, she found one quickly. Game over....not quite. Between pitching a fit to play in the playground, then being to afraid to climb the steps to the big slide and having a fit if anyone took a bite of her food, but not eating any...she was a charm to dine with. At the end of the lovely family dinner, Big Daddy was helping us load into the NannyVan. When I put her bag of candy in the diaper bag, she lost it. I mean crying and sobbing to the point of stopping breathing briefly. When we got her to stop sobbing, she said she always gets the toy from the restaurant AFTER she eats, so she wants her candy. (That is actually the rule). We tried explaining why she couldn't have it, but she just kept crying. Finally, Tripp told her she could have one piece of candy, if she stopped crying and if she behaved on the way home and if she went to bed without fussing. She got very quiet. She picked up her lemonade cup (that was almost empty) and slurped a little. The she said,"Ok Daddy, thats a good idea." So Tripp stuck out his hand and said "Ok, lets shake on it." She looked confused for a minute, then smiled and shook the h--- out of the lemonade cup.

For the goats

Supernanny took Ella and Sophia to a friend's house that had some very young, kind goats. Ella enjoyed feeding it and Sophia enjoyed being far from it!

Loving Sisters

Watch out Nascar!

Ella is well on her way to a career in Nascar...(which makes Big Daddy very happy)!

Not Fair!!!

Well, Big Daddy and the girls went to the SC Fair today, along with most of SC...The weather was beautiful and the Ella had a ball! Sophia, despite zero nap, was wonderful!! She only insisted on getting out of the stroller twice in 5 hours. She tried to nap, but there were just too many distractions! All together, we ate: a Jumbo french fry, big pepsi x3, italian sausage dog, black cherry ice cream, a lemonaid, one elephant ear with cinnamon sugar, and a bag of cotton candy (which Ella managed to deflate on the way to the car). The first ride Ella wanted to ride I knew she would hate once she was on. She insisted, so I took her. It was this bus that went in circles up in the air, then backwards. I got her through the forward ride by screaming, but the backwards part she couldn't handle. I have neverrrrr seen her so scared in her entire life. Her whole body was shaking and holding on for dear life. But, our girl is brave and she got right on another ride! When we got off, she said, "They should tell you its gonna be really scary...". We didn't lose anyone and everyone made in home in one piece. We weren't even out of the parking lot and Sophia was asleep.

All Dressed Up

Tripp and Ella went for a Frappacino(?sp) and church on Sunday. Ella kept talking about how she "sat on the steps and made a good prayer" at church. I couldn't figure that one out, but it turns out she was talking about how the pastor calls all the kids up for a little 5 minute lesson and then gets them the heck out.Sophia was dripping snot everywhere, so she and I opted out! We met Tripp's brother and sister-in-law and their two kiddos at Red Robin for a post-church lunch, so I went ahead and dressed Sophia up for pics. She is never still, so they didn't really come out very well. The snot shows up pretty well though!!

Drink Anyone?

While we were walking, Tripp was sleeping. While Tripp was sleeping, people were crashing into his car. Some drunk idiot (drank this AM, not last night), didn't stop at the stop sign on the street that merges into our street. He hit our neighbors ditch in front of her house, went airborne, then screeched across our yard and T-boned Tripp's car at 55 mi per hour, per Cayce police. There is major framework problems, and we aren't sure the guy is insured. The only thing that stopped Tripp's truck, was my car. There are just a few scratches on the bumper where he bounced off. Check out the angle it left his car in the driveway. Just to show you how serious Tripp's "waking up" problem is, he never heard the impact! Two neighbors called when it happened, didn't hear it. The drunks' air bag didn't deploy, so he was injured. Left in an ambulance. Tripp never heard it. He finally just woke up as they were towing the other car and noticed all the cops and people in our yard. To top this off, we came to the house after the walk to bring jim my keys and we couldn't start the Nanny van. Alternator dead. Fabulous.....

Breast Cancer Walk and Oktoberfest

Several us of from USC Pulmonary Clinic walked in the 2008 Walk for Breast Cancer in Columbia. There were 10,000 walkers and the weather couldn't have been better! Ella and Sophia came along. Ella did well and walked ALMOST the entire 3 miles. Sophia has a cold, but she was really good and never cried to get out of the stroller. The t-shirts were L and XL, so some of us (me) look pretty frumpy. We then rewarded ourselves with Chick-fil-A and packed up and drove to Newberry for Oktoberfest. Ella tortured one of my attendings' poor son with kisses and hugs, but overall the girls were fabulous!
